"The Greatest Apostle""Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling,
consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus" (Heb. 3:1).
Introduction
"Apostle" from the Greek apostolos -"a messenger; one sent with a commission"
Usually we think of "apostles" as twelve discipes or Paul
In a unique way, Christ the Son of God was sent to redeem us (John 17:3).
1. Ponder (consider) the titles of the Lord Jesus:
Apostle - John 8:42; 17:3
High Priest - Heb. 2:17,18; 4:14,15
Messiah - Matt. 16:16; Luke 24:46
Son - Psalm 2:6,7; John 3:36
2. Ponder the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus. Deut. 7:9; Rev. 1:5; 3:14
3. Ponder the glory of the Lord Jesus. John 1:1,14; 17:1,5
4. Ponder the deity the Lord Jesus. Col. 1:15-18; Phil. 2:9,10
Therefore
Consider Christ in His fullness. Heb. 3:1
Be faithful to your commission. John 20:21; 1 Cor. 4:2
Give Christ the glory He deserves. Col. 3:17
Give Christ preeminence in your life. Luke 9:23
Thou art the Everlasting Word,
The Father's only Son,
God manifestly seen and heard
And heaven's beloved One
In Thee most perfectly expressed
The Father's glories shine;
Of the full Deity possessed,
Eternally divine.
True image of the Infinite,
Whose essence is concealed;
Brightness of uncreated light,
The heart of God revealed.
